TV Ratings For CW Network Premiere Of Moonlight Episode 1

The CW network premiere of Moonlight grabbed 1.41 million viewers and a 0.5/2 in the 18-49 ratings demographic for the episode 1 rebroadcast. This puts it in 5th place for its time slot. The numbers are similar to recent repeats of Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries so this appears to be typical performance for the channel.

I will likely not cover ratings for every single episode unless they vary widely from the norm.

The CW Network To Rebroadcast Moonlight Season 1 Summer 2010

The CW Network will begin broadcasting Moonlight Season 1, this summer, beginning June 03, 2010. It will air each Thursday night at 9:00PM ET, following repeats of The Vampire Diaries.

On the surface, it is a bit of a surprise that the CW would choose to air reruns of Moonlight at this late date. However, Warner Brothers was the production company behind Moonlight and they just happen to own 50% of the CW. Presumably, Moonlight was available to air for a very low cost.

With Supernatural moving to Fridays, it’s possible the CW wanted something “new” to fill this particular slot until their fall season begins. I think Moonlight is a great companion to The Vampire Diaries, as well.

Moonlight's Alex O'Loughlin To Star In CBS Remake Of "Hawaii Five-0"

Alex O’Loughlin has, reportedly, just signed a deal to play the role of Detective Steve McGarrett in the CBS remake of Hawaii Five-0. Alex joins Daniel Dae Kim (“LOST”), who will play Detective Chin Ho Kelly.

This is Alex’s 3rd project for CBS, following Moonlight and Three Rivers. Hopefully, the third time is the charm, much as it was for stablemate Simon Baker who starred in The Guardian and Smith before garnering a hit with The Mentalist.

The Rumors Concerning Moonlight Season 2 on Sci Fi Are FALSE

Lately, a few untrustworthy / unreliable members of ML fandom have been spreading baseless rumors about the possibility of Moonlight Season 2.

For the sake of those readers who may have false hopes regarding this, Matt Mitovich of TV Guide lays this nonsense to rest:

"MATT: Moonlight, which averaged 7.5 million viewers during its CBS run, has been hovering around a million weekly viewers on Sci Fi, making it one of the better-performing series acquired by the cabler in recent years. That said, a wild rumor suggesting that Sci Fi is seeking to get Mick and the band back together for a Season 2 has absolutely no teeth to it."

Source: http://www.tvguide.com/News/MegaBuzz-24-Heroes-1003005.aspx

Moonlight, as a production, is a nonexistent entity. A season 2 is virtually impossible at this point. No studios have been interested. All contracts on the cast and crew have completely expired. The main actors involved have found work elsewhere. Alex O'Loughlin himself has stated that the show has been "laid to rest" so we must content ourselves with the DVD set and the repeats of season 1 on the Sci Fi Channel.

Series Description
"Moonlight" is a romantic thriller with a new twist on the vampire legend. Starring Alex O'Loughlin ("The Shield," "Mary Bryant"), Sophia Myles ("Underworld" movies, "Tristan + Isolde"), Jason Dohring ("Veronica Mars," "Deep Impact") and Shannyn Sossamon ("Dirt," "The Rules of Attraction"), "Moonlight" is from Silver Pictures Television in association with Warner Bros. Television, airing Fridays (9:00 - 10:00 p.m. ET/PT) on Sci Fi Channel.

Mick St. John (O'Loughlin) is a captivating, charming -- and immortal -- private investigator from Los Angeles who defies the traditional bloodsucking norms of his vampire tendencies by using his wit and powerful supernatural abilities to help the living. In a life-altering twist of fate, Mick was bitten 60 years ago by his then-new bride, the seductive Coraline (Sossamon).

Forever 30 years of age, Mick is as handsome and charismatic as the day he was "turned," and he eschews others of his kind who view humans only as a source of nourishment. With only a handful of like-minded confidantes for company, including the eternally young, wealthy and mischievous Josef Kostan (Dohring), a hedge-fund trader who relishes his uniqueness, Mick fills his infinite days protecting the living.

But one night years ago, a single act of kindness changed him when he saved the life of a young girl, Beth Turner (Myles), making him want to be a better vampire. Now their paths cross again, and Mick develops a distinctive bond with Beth, who has grown into a beautiful, ambitious Internet investigative reporter. Reconnecting with her unleashes feelings Mick knows he can't pursue without exposing the part of him that would make him a monster in Beth's eyes. As Mick lives between two realities, fighting his adversaries among the undead and falling in love, he discovers the mysteries and pleasures that a valuable life has to offer.

"Moonlight" is executive produced by Joel Silver ("Veronica Mars," "The Reaping," "V for Vendetta," "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," "House of Wax" [2005], "The Matrix" movies, "Gothika," "Lethal Weapon" movies, "Die Hard" movies, "The Invasion," "The Brave One" [2007], "Speed Racer" [2008]), Chip Johannessen ("Dark Angel," "Millennium," "Beverly Hills, 90210"), Ron Koslow ("Beauty and the Beast," "Birds of Prey," "Roar," "Last Dance" [1996]), Rod Holcomb ("ER," "China Beach," "Shark," "The Pentagon Papers," "Thanks of a Grateful Nation") and Gerard Bocaccio ("Playing Mona Lisa," "A Fate Totally Worse Than Death").

Moonlight Archive Site Re-Organization/Update In Progress

I've re-organized many of the pages on Moonlight Archive in order to make browsing more simple for visitors. Jason Dohring Reveals New Gig While At Polaris Convention

Forum Member “Total Eclipse” is one of the panelists at this weekend's Polaris convention in Toronto, where Jason Dohring is making an appearance. During a on-on-one with her, Jason revealed he has a recurring role in one of Rob Thomas' new shows (he wouldn't say which one and there are two), which he defined as a "very cool character". Also, he is looking at doing some leading male roles to further his career, so he can experiment a little - especially with theatre, later on.

Family and Friends

Dear Family, Friends and wonderful fans.

I have recently been going through a lot of mail from you guys and I wanted to take this opportunity to say a few things.

First, I would like to preface by appologizing for any late replies to mail I have been sent. I try to get to it all asap but sometimes it goes through a number of different channels before I even see it and time can slip away.

But the main reason for me writing is that I have found myself totally overwhelmed at the amount of support you have all been giving me in this time.

Its true, to have something you put your heart into taken away can be difficult, painful and sometimes confusing. In this instance all of the above. But never do you expect to receive anything like the amount of cards, letters and notes of appreciation and love that I have recently. It has been awesome!

Thank you all so very much.

Only too well do I understand the attachment so many of you had to Moonlight and to Mick, Beth, Josef and the gang but now that they have been laid to rest I can only hope you will all follow me into my next exciting adventure, whatever that may be.

We all fought so hard.
We all worked so hard.
I guess some things are simply out of our hands.

I look forward with great anticipation to giving you all the news of the next chapter in this crazy career of mine!!
And again, thanks for all the wonderful support.

Warmest regards

Alex O'loughlin. x o x”

Everyone here at MIA wishes Alex the best of luck with his continued career as he moves on to bigger and better things!

Meanwhile stay tuned for news on the Moonlight DVD Season 1 set!

"True Blood" Vampire Series Coming To HBO This Fall

While vampire shows have a hard time surviving on mainstream television, they often thrive on cable networks. So while we continue to mourn the loss of Moonlight on CBS, some good news is coming from HBO in the form of a new vampires series called “True Blood”. Based on the “Southern Vampires” series of novels from Charlaine Harris, and adapted for TV by Alan Ball, “True Blood” details the fictional co-existence of vampires and humans in a small Louisiana town after Japanese-made synthetic blood – "Tru Blood" – becomes available for purchase. Anna Paquin stars as Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic waitress at a diner who falls in love with one of the vampires, Bill Compton (portrayed by Stephen Moyer). The series premieres September 7th, 2008 at PM ET.

I’ve seen an unfinished version of the pilot episode and would describe it as a cross between Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Dark Shadows. It seems inventive and well cast. I’ll be covering news and information about the series at http://true-blood.tv and hope many of you vampire lovers will join me. A forum for the series has been setup, as well, and is already full of lively discussion.
