Video Of Moonlight Fans Rally At WB TV On May 23th, 2008

Despite the gloomy weather, a swarm of Moonlight fans campaigning for renewal ventured out to rally in front of Warner Bros TV in Los Angeles on May 23rd, 2008, in hopes a new home might be found for the series.

Forum member Greeneyes recorded the following short video while she was on site.

Moonlight MRC Talks Dead? ... or not?

Nikki at deadlinehollywooddaily.com is reporting that, today, Media Rights Capitol / CW officially passed on Moonlight. While the show was offered to a number of different networks in the hopes of a pick-up, MRC was seen as the best hope. It is requested that you please stop calling MRC at this point.

"UPDATE: I hear MRC now has been asked to consider Moonlight for mid-season. This is such a shot in the dark it's barely worth posting. But I'm posting nonetheless. I've also been told that CBS continues to hold an option on the star of the show, Alex O"Loughlin, and that he's in demand for other projects."

While I believe hope is a good thing, I do not believe false hope is healthy. If you wish to continue campaigning, your best bet is to keep contacting WB TV. They have the power to find other buyers, in the event someone is willing.

Tell Warner Brothers you love Moonlight and will follow it anywhere!

CBS Exec Nina Tassler Comments On Moonlight Cancelation

http://www.zap2it.com/tv/news/zap-cbscancelsmoonlight,0,6764293.story

The highlights:
"It had a very passionate fanbase, and that's a good thing," Tassler said. "We just had to make a lot of tough calls."

"We had to make a very tough decision," she adds. "I loved that vampire -- what can I tell ya?"

Also, when questioned about the likelihood of Moonlight finding a home on the CW nework, she stated "Probably not, no."

Moonlight Being Looked At By CW?

Sources are reporting that WB Television had ordered the Moonlight sets to be struck today, after cancelation, but the order was abruptly delayed until Friday. It appears there is a slim chance the show might end up on the CW network in a Sunday slot as programmed by Media Rights Capital.

Moonlight Canceled By CBS

Sources today are saying that the producers of Moonlight have received word CBS will not be picking up the show for any additional episodes next season. Word is that CBS was not happy with the show's post-strike ratings performance or creative direction. There is a slim chance that the show could be picked up by another network but this happens only rarely.

Moonlight NOT on CBS Fall Schedule?

I've been receiving a number of emails since last night telling me that Moonlight's chances for a Fall renewal have grown suddenly rather dim over the weekend. Sources say that Moonlight will most likely not appear on the official CBS Fall schedule and that the best hope for a pick-up comes via a 13-episode mid-season order. Along with previous news that Chip Johannessen had exited the scene, now comes news that, co-creator, Ron Koslow has been asked to leave and that Jill Blotevogel, writer, has been canned as of last week.

The main issue surrounding it's possible cancelation seems to stem from low ratings performance of the previous 3 episodes and conflicts over money/budget between CBS and WB.

Moonlight Blood Drive Campaign

From a Press Release by moonlightblooddrive.org:
Also, see: http://www.youchoose.net/campaign/moonlight_season_2

Fans of the CBS vampire detective television series Moonlight have organized a national blood drive to show their support and to celebrate the return of new episodes beginning Friday April 25th.

The freshman series has amassed a huge fan base and a cult-like following, as evidenced by winning the “Favorite New TV Drama” on The Peoples Choice Awards, and the show consistently won it’s time period.

The Official Moonlight Blood Drive is being sponsored by www.youchoose.net, which is the place for fans of TV programs to join campaigns for their favorite shows, including “save our show” campaigns.

The National Red Cross has taken an active roll in the blood drive and is acting as a liaison with all of the local Red Cross chapters nationwide. The Red Cross donation button on the www.youchoose.net pledge site will take you to where you can donate directly to the American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles. We selected this Red Cross chapter to replenish funds that were depleted by the wildfires.

The Official Moonlight Blood Drive will be held at various locations nationwide April 18th through April 27th. To participate, fans should access www.youchoose.net and click on Moonlight Season 2 in the Crusades section on the main page to see the three options on how to pledge to give blood or donate money and to find the locations where blood drives are being held.

There still is a need for volunteers to help at sites already set up or to run a new blood drive sites across the nation. There are over 4000 total pledges so far. To see how simple it is to run a blood drive site go to www.moonlightblooddrive.org and click on the “volunteer” link. There are many blood drive sites already set up in cities such as Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Philadelphia. Fans who need information and do not have an internet connection can call 800-335-4852 Pacific Time 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM daily. To respond to this press release e-mail Barbara at robes4you@aol.com .

The Official Moonlight Blood Drive t-shirt, that is sure to become a collector’s item, will be available for donors during the blood drive through www.youchoose.net. The t-shirts and other items will be available for fans to purchase, who do not participate in the blood drive, after April 27th. Go to www.moonlightblooddrive.org to find a link to a site where they are available.

More On Moonlight Renewal "Fan Campaigns"

I've been receiving a lot of feedback from frustrated Moonlight fans due to a potentially damaging renewal campaign that has been pushed by various Moonlight fan sites today. For whatever reason, this effort seems to have been planned by a select few without tangible input from many of Moonlight's loyal and dedicated fans. While the organizer's hearts may have been in the right place, I don't think sending plastic baggies of garlic to CBS is the way to go nor do I think all the fans should be left out of the planning and decision making process when it comes to renewal efforts.

I'd like to offer up our forum as a place for anyone / everyone to discuss renewal efforts, if they feel stifled elsewhere. Please join us in the forum and offer up your comments and ideas.

Moonlight Renewal Tips: Don't Send Gimicky Items To The Powers That Be

Every time a show is deemed to be "in trouble" fans band together, as they should, to try and let TPTB know how much they love their favorite series. I have always believed that a well placed snail mail letter or postcard is the best thing that can be sent to make your feelings known.

TV Writer, journalist, and blogger Denis McGrath has put together a great list of suggestions that fans should heed, and #1 on the list is DON'T SEND CRAP!

Here's an except (and go here for the complete list):

"1) Don't Send Crap.

It seems like a good idea, and kind of hooky -- find something that's associated with the show and send it on in in droves to "show your support." Jericho fans sent nuts, and yup, every news story about the show mentioned the damn nuts. But the nuts are beside the point. It's a bauble.

The problem is that now everybody wants to send some tchochke. And man, that's a big mistake.

So, Blood Ties fans, please, don't send pints of blood or fake fangs or anything. What you say in a letter is way more important and powerful than any hunk of junk you push through the postal system.

I have less of an opinion on other "organizing cries" like raising money for a charity or an ad or something -- though really, my humanist side says that it's always better to give to charity than try to buy an ad in Variety -- but when it comes to the crap through the mail stuff, I'm firm. It's a bad idea.

Because I've seen who it goes to.

The people who have the power to greenlight or un-cancel a show are never the people that have to deal with the cases of nuts or steel rods or Mars bars or fake vomit or whatever else gets sent by the skidload. It never gets anywhere near them. Instead, the likely outcome is that you're going to make some personal assistant or mailroom person's day absolute hell. For weeks. They get paid crap, and now they have to deal with your crap. It's not fair. They can't do anything about the show. And they're the ones who suffer.

But there's also an extra-special reason not to send crap. See, those powerless people? Even though they're powerless, they have something you don't. In whatever, small way -- they have access. The personal assistant to Susanne Daniels, President of Lifetime Networks, talks to her all day, every day. The mail gets delivered in the company each and every day.

Now when I worked at a network, occasionally, very impulsively -- someone very big would ask the "little people" what they thought of something. You know, to be populist.

What do you think they're going to say if they've spent weeks dealing with your crap?

That's right. It's only natural. It's only human. They are going to HATE YOUR SHOW. And they are going to be GLAD IT WAS CANCELED. They will not defend the show, because you have MADE THEIR LIVES HELL.

I have seen this happen with my own eyes. It's even happened to me."

So, please, if you really enjoy Moonlight and would like to see another season. Send them a nice snail mail letter or postcard. The little people will thank you for it.

...and if common sense weren't enough, take a moment to look at the outcome of the Jericho campaign. CBS received 50,000 lbs of nuts, reversed their cancelation decision and produced a second season that people quickly tuned out. I don't think CBS is going to be swayed by food items, again, any time soon.

"It has been announced by CBS that there will be 4 new episodes of the Moonlight series airing in April/May of 2008. However, as of this date, the fate of Moonlight for the 2008/2009 fall season has yet to be announced.
