Moonlight's Chances For Revival Are Dead

I continue to frequently receive email asking about the chances of Moonlight's renewal/pickup by other networks. While it has was unfortunate - but not surprising - that the show was initially canceled, the chances of another network picking it up were always remote due to the financial issues involved.

The Hollywood Reporter has posted a new article today, which includes the following;

"Sorry, fans. Sources close to the show said Monday that all those last-ditch efforts to bring "Moonlight" back from its final resting place have now concluded. The sets have been dismantled. The stage is being taken over by CBS' upcoming drama "The Mentalist." The billowy shirts are packed up. It's done."

Seat42 is, also, reporting on this and has added that "The cast has been let go to pursue other projects."

Fans should not continue clinging to false hopes or allow themselves to be strung along by unsubstantiated rumors spread by others in fandom. I love the show as much as everyone else but the fat lady has sung. It's time to enjoy the episodes already produced and come to terms with the reality of the situation. Never say never, because miracles do happen, but I'd rather accept this as closure and be pleasantly surprised later than cling to false hopes and be severely disappointed.

Moonlight's Alex O'Loughlins Talks with E!'s Kristin

TV Guide's Matt Roush and E's Kristin Comment On Moonlight's Future

TV Guide's Matt Roush answers a Moonlight Fan's question in his Friday edition of Ask Matt:

"Question: As you can probably imagine, there's plenty of wailing and gnashing of teeth out here in Moonlight-land with CBS' list of 2008-'09 renewals published and no mention of Moonlight. The pickup of the four episodes for April gave us all cause for hope. Now we don't know what to think. What are your thoughts?— Lyn

Matt Roush: If Moonlight were really dead, CBS wouldn't have gone to the expense of putting the show back into production for just four more episodes. I'd take that as a sign to be cautiously optimistic that if the spring episodes show the same creative growth and fan momentum that Moonlight was exhibiting when the strike kicked in, then CBS will have little choice but to renew it. But I doubt we'll know for sure until the actual Upfronts in May."

Also, Kristin over at E! Online muses on the danger known as the "Death Slot" and includes Moonlight among the show that may be 'on the bubble' as far as renewal.

Moonlight To Finish Season Without Show-Runner

The Hollywood Reporter has indicated that Moonlight will finish it's 4 episode run without a show-runner:

"Executive producer Joel Silver and the writing team of CBS' "Moonlight" collectively will shepherd the four additional episodes of the freshman drama as showrunner/executive producer Chip Johannessen has exited.

The vampire drama is not expected to name a new showrunner for the four-episode order but will do so if the series is picked up for a second season."

Moonlight's Show-Runner Let Go?

TV Guide's Michael Ausiello is reporting on his blog that Chip Johanessen, Moonlight's show-runner, has been fired. The entry reads:

"More backstage drama at Moonlight — and the timing couldn't be worse. I'm told that Chip Johannessen has been let go as show-runner just as the freshman drama is fighting for a second season. The search is on for a replacement.

This is the second major regime change for the cult fave; over the summer Johannessen replaced David Greenwalt, who vacated his post for health reasons.

The behind-the-scenes upheaval may explain why Moonlight was conspicuously absent from CBS' litany of renewals last week. It's unclear what impact this will have on the four post-strike episodes that the network just commissioned, which are slated to begin airing on April 11. But rest assured, when I know you'll know."

Moonlight's Alex O'Loughlin Interview In Starlog Magazine

The March 2008 issue of Starlog, an American Sci-Fi magazine, features an interview with Alex O'Loughlin. The article, titled "The Inner Monster:, is approximately 4 pages, including pics. The issue number is 363. Alex talks about Moonlight, his favorite character on the show, his great chemistry with Sophia Myles, and his career so far. He, also, has this to say about vampires:

---
“I’ve always loved the idea of vampires and immortality,” the Australian O’Loughlin says during a rare break on the set. “I love The Lost Boys and Bram Stoker’s Dracula and the work of Anne Rice. I don’t know if I would want to be immortal, but the thought of the infinite excites me. It also haunts me, in a way. My father, who teaches physics and astronomy, has given me ideas about the expanse of the universe that have haunted me for years and made me get in touch with my own mortality.”
